Shanghai's Yuyuan and Tikang Lu

Got a great night's sleep last night, which felt good, and once I got myself ready this morning, I went off to meet Qiong. In the hallway on the way to the subway entrance, there's one wall with women in bikinis all the way down the wall (http://www.flickr.com/photos/86747592@N00/4102228709/in/set-72157622800373836/), and the opposite wall has calligraphy and paintings (http://www.flickr.com/photos/86747592@N00/4102229657/in/set-72157622800373836/) all the way down the hall. I think it says a lot about Shanghai and China.

Today's photos are here, btw: http://www.flickr.com/photos/86747592@N00/sets/72157622800373836/

Anyway, Qiong and I met on the subway and went over to an area near the Bund. Nanjing East, I think, but a famous shopping area. We did a little shopping and looking at great calligraphy and chopsticks stores. Then we made our way over to Yuyuan (Yu Gardens, Jade Gardens... not sure what the best name is). I was there last time I was in town and I love it, but today's crowds were kind of crazy. Still, we had fun looking in the shops and I got some good photos.

And, of course, there was lunch. I have a long history of eating food with Qiong and she likes to order a lot of food. Today was no exception. The steamed buns were amazing, and everything else was delicious too. I didn't need to eat dinner, though, because the meal was so huge. You can see all the photos, but here's the buns: http://www.flickr.com/photos/86747592@N00/4102200745/in/set-72157622800373836/

After lunch and a little more shopping, we went over to Taikang Lu, which is a renovated area that was old buildings and now is a tres chic hip place. It was fun to walk around, but most of the stuff was way too expensive. But we did see a large selection of artwork in the galleries, and that was cool.

Can you tell I'm tired? Once we were finished our day, I came back and just chilled out. Itamar and Fabiane have a huge collection of DVD's here, so I ended up watching 21 and vegging out. Once that was over, my favorite tv show came on. And that would be English Speaking Cup on CCTV9. It's for college students and they are graded on how they speak english in a prepared speech, then during some debate-type things with "challengers" (not other contestants, professional grumpy people). It's like a cross between high school debate and a spelling bee. Strangely fascinating.

Anyway, to bed now, as I'm meeting up with Sam for some activities tomorrow!
