I woke up yesterday feeling rather awful, with the head cold in full force in my sinuses. After collecting various medicines and taking a shower, I started to feel a little better. Both Mark and Michelle had the day off, so they took me to a great place for breakfast (Gunshop cafe), and the food was delicious. It's not as "exotic" as Asia, but I thought I should take photos anyway!

After breakfast we went off to downtown Brisbane and walked in the Queen Street mall, which is filled with shops of all kinds.

I did just a little shopping, including searching for a costume for the evening's planned Sound of Music sing-a-long. It's shocking just how in style awful floral patterns are, so I decided I could just get a dress that had a curtain-like floral pattern, and use that. I did also stop to look at the Australia gear:

And it definitely feels really weird to be walking around in 90 degrees in shorts and t-shirts and then see people singing "Jingle Bells":

Once we were done with our errands and such, we returned home for a nap and rest before Michelle L joined us, we all got costumed up, and then went to the arts center. Actually first we stopped for fish and chips from a fish seller. I wish I had a photo, because it was by far the best fish and chips I've had, and totally cooked fresh!
But then we had to run in to find our seats. Pam and Katherine (more family! Mark's mum and sister) were there already, and we got settled in. We were all costumed, Mark in lederhosen, Michelle and Katherine as girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes, Pam with brown paper packages tied up with strings, Michelle L as a goat, and me in my "play clothes" like the ones Maria makes the children out of curtains.

But we were just the tip of the iceburg! Check out the million nuns, and the other crowd of costumed folks.

Anyway, the host was hilarious and gave us a million instructions for things to say and do (Boo the nazis, hiss the Baroness, Awww little Gretl, and hold up various props at points in the show). We proceeded to belt out songs at the top of our lungs, yell things out, hold up props, and enjoy quite a silly experience.

And then afterwards we got some photos with random other people. Drunk young nuns, and me, Flat Stanley, and the Hills Are Alive with the Sound of Music group!

It was quite a late night, but I think I'm on the mend from my cold because I was able to sleep quite a long time. Today is a relatively mellow day and I'll be joining my hosts for a party for Michelle's cousin tonight. Here's hoping I'm 100% tomorrow. Right now I think I'll finally try out the pool. It's hot here today!
